In our course we have also got to create a poster which advertises the artist or their most recent accomplishments such as a song or an album. To try and find out how to create our poster we have taken an example off of Ed Sheerans site which goes with the sort of genre we are looking at.
I am going to analyse this poster to the conventions of this genre as I believe it will help me understand how to create a poster which appeals to the audience and how it will help make ours appealling to the audience aswell.
The first thing of which I'm going to talk about in this poster is the use of the main image in the centre of the poster, by having the artist looking at the ground it gives them a sort of mysterious feel. In a lot of posters I have seen within this genre the artist look away from the camera, this could be a convention of the genre as people like Newton Faulkner and Jason Mraz also look away from the camera. I believe that on our poster that we create we will also have our artist looking away from the camera to give him a mysterious look, and also holding a guitar. This also seems to be part of the conventions of a poster in this genre as a lot of the musicians like to introduce there guitar to a lot of the images that they have of themselves.
The next part of the poster of which im going to talk about is the way they have tried to make the poster look very scruffy but still smart at the same time. The first thing of which they have done to portray this look is through messing up Ed Sheerans hair, by having it messy it makes him look as if he is very careless over his appearance. This seems to be a convention of the posters, artists within this genre all seem to have this sort of careless attitude towards appearance such as Newton faulkner with his long ginger dreadlocks. If he wanted to look smart then he would have a slick, clean-cut haircut. They also seem to wear baggy clothes which also gives me a sense of carelessness. By looking at this poster and how they have tried to make the artist look as scruffy as possible with a clean background I believe that they have influenced me into dressing our artist in baggy clothes. I also believe that they have juxtaposed Ed Sheeran next to his background, by making the background seem so professional and him seem so scruffy.
The last part of the poster of which I'm going to analyse is the font, as you can see they have made it so that it also isn't very formal. This is clearly a big part of this sort of genre as it seems to crop up everywhere.
By doing this I have learnt that when creating a poster for this type of genre we dont want to make it look very formal. Most of this genre abides by the conventions of which I have come across. When creating our poster I belive that we should carry on with the conventions of the genre by having a simple look to the poster with a scruffy image of our artist.
